Tracker methodology

The VASP License Tracker is a curated, verifiable view of virtual-asset regulatory regimes. It is built and maintained inside this repository and every record's history is auditable.

Sources

Each record links to at least one official primary source — a regulator publication, a statute or instrument, or a government press release. News reporting is acceptable as a supporting citation but is never the sole source for a status claim. accessedAt is recorded so that readers can re-verify when regulator pages change.

Verification

Records carry a last verified date. The Tracker UI marks entries older than 90 days as "verification due" rather than silently letting them age — staleness is surfaced honestly.

What we do not include

  • Inferred or assumed statuses where a regulator has not published a register.
  • Unsourced fee ranges or processing timelines.
  • Editorial superlatives such as "best", "most attractive", or "easiest" jurisdiction.
  • Provider entries unless the regulator publishes an authoritative public registry.

Editorial workflow

  1. A change request opens with a citation to a primary source.
  2. Editor updates the relevant entry: bumps lastVerifiedAt, appends to sources.
  3. A reviewer confirms the source supports the change.
  4. The change is merged and the Tracker republishes with the updated date.
